Quality Standards

What Makes a Successful CDR?

First-Person Narrative

Always write in first person ('I designed...', 'I analysed...', 'I managed...'). Engineers Australia wants to understand your personal contribution, not your team's work.

Specific Technical Content

Include specific technical details — software used, standards applied, calculations performed, materials specified. Vague descriptions raise red flags for assessors.

Competency Indicator Mapping

Every competency indicator in EA's MSA document must be addressed in your Career Episodes. Your Summary Statement then maps each indicator to specific paragraphs.

Correct Word Count

Each Career Episode should be 1,500–2,500 words. Too short suggests insufficient engineering content; too long risks losing the assessor's attention.

Plagiarism-Free Content

Engineers Australia uses plagiarism detection software. All content must be original and written specifically for your application. Copied content leads to immediate rejection.

Clear Problem-Solution Structure

Structure each Career Episode around a specific engineering problem you faced, the approach you took, the solution you developed, and the outcome achieved.

CDR Structure

What Does a CDR Include?

A complete CDR submission to Engineers Australia consists of four key documents.

01

Career Episodes (×3)

Three separate accounts of your engineering work, each 1,500–2,500 words. Each episode must describe a specific engineering project or activity and demonstrate your personal engineering competencies.

02

Summary Statement

A document that cross-references your Career Episodes to Engineers Australia's competency indicators. Each indicator must be addressed with a specific paragraph reference from your Career Episodes.

03

CPD (Continuing Professional Development)

A chronological list of all formal and informal professional development activities you have undertaken since graduating. This demonstrates your commitment to ongoing learning.

04

Supporting Documents

Academic transcripts, employment references, identity documents, and English language test results. These support and verify the claims made in your Career Episodes.
